Before & After Meetups: RiNo Night Out

Welcome to Before & After Meetups — a new series where we map out your entire meetup night, from the first pour to the last round. Every spot in each guide is walkable from the others, so you never have to move your car.

We're starting where Denver's tech scene is densest: River North (RiNo).

Before: Coffee & Pre-Meetup

You've got a couple hours before the meetup starts. Here's where to post up.

Improper City — 3201 Walnut St

The unofficial living room of RiNo's tech crowd. By day it's an 8,000 sq ft free coworking space with WiFi and phone booths. By evening it transforms into a 36-tap craft beer bar with food trucks parked outside daily. The day-to-night transition makes it a natural staging spot — show up early with your laptop, stay for the meetup nearby.

  • Vibe: Casual, laptop-friendly, huge patio
  • Good for: Solo work sessions, small group meetups before the main event
  • Don't miss: The rotating food truck lineup outside

Crema at Denver Central Market — 2669 Larimer St

Expertly pulled espresso and cold brew on tap inside Denver Central Market, a food hall with 11+ local vendors. If your pre-meetup crew can't agree on one spot, this solves it — everyone grabs what they want and meets at the communal tables.

  • Vibe: Bustling food hall energy
  • Good for: Groups with different cravings, a quick bite with your coffee
  • Don't miss: Izzio Bakery's sourdough and Culture Meat's sandwiches while you're there

Coffee Sarap — RiNo

A Filipino-inspired coffee shop opened by two Filipina-American friends. The drinks here are a conversation starter — ube lattes, pandan matcha, Palawan Dreams. It's a break from the typical coffee rotation and worth seeking out.

  • Vibe: Colorful, distinctive, warm
  • Good for: A memorable pre-meetup coffee run
  • Don't miss: The Ube Latte

The Meetup

RiNo is home to some of Denver's most active tech meetup venues. The Source, Galvanize (when hosting events), and various brewery taprooms along Larimer and Walnut regularly host developer meetups, AI/ML groups, startup pitch nights, and design community gatherings. Most evening events run 6-8 PM.

After: Dinner

The meetup's over and the conversation's still going. Keep it moving.

Work & Class — 2500 Larimer St

Latin American-influenced comfort food that's earned James Beard recognition. The menu is hearty and shareable — think braised meats, fresh tortillas, and seasonal sides. It's unpretentious, reasonably priced for the quality, and the kind of place where post-meetup conversations flow naturally over shared plates.

  • Vibe: Warm, lively, no-fuss fine dining
  • Price: $$
  • Good for: Groups of 4-8, anyone who appreciates real food without the attitude
  • Reserve ahead: Popular on weeknights, walk-ins possible but not guaranteed

The Greenwich — RiNo

Sourdough pizza and contemporary Italian small plates in the heart of RiNo. For groups of 9+, they have dedicated event coordination. The pizza is the move here — order a few for the table and split everything.

  • Vibe: Relaxed Italian, neighborhood feel
  • Price: $$
  • Good for: Larger post-meetup groups, pizza-and-conversation energy
  • Reserve ahead: Contact events@thegreenwichdenver.com for parties of 9+

After: Nightcaps

Not ready to call it? Neither are these spots.

Ratio Beerworks — 2920 Larimer St

An independent craft brewery with punk-rock roots and a massive 4,000 sq ft patio. This is RiNo's default post-everything destination — affordable pints, laid-back atmosphere, and room for overflow. Wednesday nights they run free comedy shows if your meetup happens to land midweek.

  • Vibe: DIY, community-driven, big patio energy
  • Price: $
  • Good for: The whole crew, especially when the group is too big for a cocktail bar
  • Don't miss: Their flagship Domestica golden ale

Death & Co — 1280 25th St (The Ramble Hotel, Five Points)

A short walk from RiNo into Five Points, this is the Denver outpost of NYC's legendary cocktail bar. Multiple rooms — the main bar, the upstairs Suite 6A lounge, and a seasonal garden — mean you can find the right vibe for your group size. The cocktail menu is organized by mood (Fresh & Lively, Boozy & Honest) and the food menu holds its own with oysters and a standout burger.

  • Vibe: World-class cocktails, dark and intimate
  • Price: $$$
  • Good for: Impressing out-of-town colleagues, a proper nightcap with 2-4 people
  • Don't miss: Ask the bartender to pick based on your spirit preference — they're trained for it

The Walking Route

Here's how the night flows on foot:

1. 3:00 PM — Post up at Improper City or Denver Central Market with your laptop

2. 5:30 PM — Walk to your meetup venue (most are within 5-10 min in RiNo)

3. 8:00 PM — Meetup wraps, walk to Work & Class or The Greenwich for dinner (5 min)

4. 9:30 PM — Stroll to Ratio Beerworks for a casual round (3 min) or Death & Co for cocktails (10 min walk into Five Points)

Total walking distance for the entire night: under a mile.
