Your design system has 400 components, comprehensive documentation, and a Figma library that auto-syncs with code. And yet — product teams still ship screens that look nothing like it. They build custom date pickers. They override tokens. They copy-paste from the library, then mutate.

Contribution criteria are public and specific

The single most impactful thing a design system team can do is publish a clear, specific set of criteria that determine whether a component belongs in the system. Not "it should be reusable" — that's meaningless. Specific:

Rotating representatives replace standing committees
