Before & After Meetups: Pike/Pine Power Hour

Welcome to Before & After Meetups — a new series where we map out your entire meetup night, from the first pour to the last round. Every spot in each guide is walkable from the others, so you never have to move your car.

Before: Coffee & Pre-Meetup

You've got a couple hours before the meetup starts. Here's where to post up.

Victrola Coffee Roasters — 310 E Pike St

Seattle's specialty coffee institution since 2000, and the heart of Capitol Hill's remote-work scene. The Pike Street flagship doubles as a roastery and training facility with free WiFi, plenty of outlets, and a warm atmosphere. Weekly public cuppings make it a natural gathering spot.

  • Vibe: Warm, bustling, Seattle coffee royalty
  • Good for: Afternoon laptop sessions, meeting fellow attendees before the event
  • Don't miss: The weekly public coffee cupping — free and open to anyone

Ada's Technical Books and Cafe — 425 15th Ave E

Part technical bookstore, part vegetarian cafe, part coworking space — Ada's is the unofficial clubhouse for Seattle's tech community. Shelves of science and engineering books surround you while you sip specialty coffee and work on fast WiFi.

  • Vibe: Nerdy, welcoming, purpose-built for tech people
  • Good for: Deep-focus work sessions, browsing tech books before a meetup, small group planning
  • Don't miss: The curated science and engineering book collection — you will leave with something new

Gearhouse Coffee — 800 E Thomas St

Two blocks from the Capitol Hill Light Rail Station, Gearhouse combines a full coffee shop with an outdoor adventure social club. High ceilings, 80+ seats, south-facing windows, multiple fast WiFi networks, and plenty of outlets.

  • Vibe: Spacious, community-oriented, outdoorsy-meets-techie
  • Good for: Large groups meeting before an event, remote work with plenty of elbow room
  • Don't miss: The outdoor gear rentals — plan a weekend hike while you caffeinate

The Meetup

Capitol Hill's Pike/Pine corridor is Seattle's most active neighborhood for tech meetups. Ada's Technical Books runs tech author events, and venues along Pike and Pine regularly host developer meetups, AI/ML gatherings, UX design community nights, and startup pitch events. The Capitol Hill Light Rail station puts the entire neighborhood within easy reach of downtown and South Lake Union.

After: Dinner

The meetup's over and the conversation's still going. Keep it moving.

Poquitos — 1000 E Pike St

Vibrant, colorful Mexican restaurant right on the Pike/Pine corridor with a menu built for sharing — tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, and strong margaritas. The open-air atrium and outdoor patio make it feel like a celebration.

  • Vibe: Festive, colorful, high-energy
  • Price: $$
  • Good for: Groups of 4-8, taco-and-margarita energy, dietary flexibility
  • Don't miss: The tableside guacamole and the margarita menu

MariPili Tapas Bar — 1117 12th Ave

James Beard-nominated Galician tapas bar that Seattle Met named Restaurant of the Year. Elevated Spanish bar food and homestyle cooking in a casual, intimate setting. The tapas format is perfect for groups.

  • Vibe: Intimate, elevated-casual, James Beard pedigree
  • Price: $$$
  • Good for: Groups of 4-6 who want something special, impressing out-of-town colleagues
  • Don't miss: The Spanish croquetas and whatever seasonal fish is on the menu
  • Reserve ahead: Strongly recommended via OpenTable — limited seating

After: Nightcaps

Not ready to call it? Neither are these spots.

Stoup Brewing — Capitol Hill — 1158 Broadway

A sprawling, community-friendly brewery and beer hall at Broadway & Union. Plenty of beer on tap plus alternatives, daily food trucks parked outside, and room for big groups. Family-friendly and dog-welcoming.

  • Vibe: Spacious beer hall, community-driven, room for everyone
  • Price: $
  • Good for: The whole crew, especially when the group is too big for a cocktail bar
  • Don't miss: Whatever rotating seasonal is on tap, and check the food truck of the day

Paper Fan Cocktail Bar — 601 E Pike St, Unit 100

A hidden gem tucked on the mezzanine above Biang Biang Noodles, behind red velvet curtains. Intimate loft space serving tea-infused cocktails with Asian-inspired flavors. The "I know a place" factor is off the charts.

  • Vibe: Intimate speakeasy, tea-infused cocktails, hidden above a noodle shop
  • Price: $$$
  • Good for: Impressing colleagues, a proper nightcap with 2-4 people, cocktail enthusiasts
  • Don't miss: The tea-infused cocktails — tell the bartender your spirit preference and let them choose
  • Reserve ahead: Recommended, especially Friday/Saturday. Open Tue-Sat only.

The Walking Route

Here's how the night flows on foot:

1. 3:00 PM — Post up at Victrola Coffee or Ada's Technical Books with your laptop

2. 5:30 PM — Walk to your meetup venue (most Capitol Hill tech meetups are within 5-10 min along Pike/Pine)

3. 8:00 PM — Meetup wraps, walk to Poquitos for tacos and margaritas (5 min) or MariPili for elevated tapas (8 min)

4. 9:30 PM — Stroll to Stoup Brewing for a casual round (5 min) or slip behind the curtains at Paper Fan for tea-infused cocktails (3 min)

Total walking distance for the entire night: under a mile.
