Before & After Meetups: The Warehouse Wander

Welcome to Before & After Meetups — a new series where we map out your entire meetup night, from the first pour to the last round. Every spot in each guide is walkable from the others, so you never have to move your car.

Before: Coffee & Pre-Meetup

You've got a couple hours before the meetup starts. Here's where to post up.

lucettegrace — 235 S Salisbury St

A contemporary patisserie led by pastry chef Daniel Benjamin, housed in a bright, spacious downtown storefront. Genuinely remote-work friendly with ample outlets, fast WiFi, and enough elbow room that you never feel rushed.

  • Vibe: Polished patisserie, sunlit, laptop-friendly
  • Good for: Solo deep-work sessions, a refined pre-meetup coffee and pastry
  • Don't miss: The seasonal croissants and the kouign-amann

Morning Times — 10 E Hargett St

A downtown Raleigh institution since 2006, this bi-level coffeehouse occupies a bohemian exposed-brick space with an upstairs gallery. Locally roasted coffee, house-made bagels, and a laid-back vibe.

  • Vibe: Bohemian, exposed brick, two-story hangout
  • Good for: Groups meeting up before an event, a casual pre-meetup workspace
  • Don't miss: The house-made bagels and the upstairs seating

Sir Walter Coffee — 145 E Davie St

Raleigh's community coffee bar where coffee meets craft cocktails in the evenings. The day-to-night transition makes it a natural staging spot — show up with your laptop for espresso, and by 5 PM the atmosphere shifts to wine and cocktails.

  • Vibe: Hip, community-driven, day-to-night transition
  • Good for: Arriving early and staying through the afternoon-to-evening shift
  • Don't miss: The Espresso Tonic and the evening cocktail menu

The Meetup

Downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District is home to a growing concentration of tech meetup venues. Raleigh Founded operates coworking spaces at The Dillon, and WeWork One Glenwood straddles the Warehouse District border. Triangle Startup Social and Downtown Techies host events in this corridor. Most evening meetups run 6-8 PM.

After: Dinner

The meetup's over and the conversation's still going. Keep it moving.

Sam Jones BBQ — 502 W Lenoir St

Third-generation pitmaster Sam Jones brought Eastern North Carolina whole-hog barbecue to the Warehouse District — and earned a MICHELIN Guide mention. The menu is built for groups: platters of chopped pork, spare ribs, fried chicken, and classic Southern sides.

  • Vibe: Wood-smoke-filled, communal, authentically Southern
  • Price: $
  • Good for: Groups of 4-8 who want to share platters, anyone who appreciates real barbecue
  • Don't miss: The whole-hog chopped BBQ and the spare ribs — this is the real deal

Figulina — 317 S Harrington St

A James Beard Best New Restaurant semifinalist set in a converted tile warehouse. The menu changes weekly, built around handmade pasta, inspired small plates, and seasonal ingredients. Long communal tables and an open floor plan make it ideal for groups.

  • Vibe: Elevated Italian, airy warehouse space, communal
  • Price: $$$
  • Good for: Groups of 4-8 celebrating a milestone, shareable small plates
  • Don't miss: Whatever handmade pasta is on this week's menu — it changes constantly
  • Reserve ahead: Recommended via Resy

After: Nightcaps

Not ready to call it? Neither are these spots.

Crank Arm Brewing — 319 W Davie St

A cycling-themed craft brewery right in the Warehouse District with a laid-back taproom and a front patio with gas fire pits. Dog-friendly, has board games, and is the default post-everything destination for Warehouse District regulars.

  • Vibe: Laid-back brewery, cycling culture, community-driven
  • Price: $
  • Good for: The whole crew, especially when the group is too big for a cocktail bar
  • Don't miss: Their rotating seasonal IPAs and the front patio fire pits

The Willard Rooftop Lounge — 9 Glenwood Ave (7th floor, AC Hotel)

A rooftop cocktail bar perched on the 7th floor of the AC Hotel, right at the Warehouse District and Glenwood South border. Two heated outdoor terraces offer panoramic views of the downtown Raleigh skyline. The cocktail program is serious — barrel-aged Old Fashioneds and seasonal creations.

  • Vibe: Rooftop glamour, skyline views, craft cocktails
  • Price: $$$
  • Good for: Impressing out-of-town colleagues, a proper nightcap with 2-4 people
  • Don't miss: The Willard Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned and the skyline views at sunset
  • Reserve ahead: Recommended on weekends via OpenTable

The Walking Route

Here's how the night flows on foot:

1. 3:00 PM — Post up at lucettegrace or Morning Times with your laptop

2. 5:30 PM — Walk to your meetup venue (Raleigh Founded at The Dillon, WeWork One Glenwood, or a Warehouse District taproom — all within 5-10 min)

3. 8:00 PM — Meetup wraps, walk to Sam Jones BBQ for whole-hog barbecue (7 min) or Figulina for handmade pasta (5 min)

4. 9:30 PM — Stroll to Crank Arm Brewing for a casual round on the patio (3 min) or The Willard for rooftop cocktails with skyline views (8 min)
